| Stopping Teen Sex by Banning Contraceptives, wait...what? While eavesdropping on some local news I've just recieved notice of Barcelona's new campaign by enforcing all pharmacies to ban the selling of the morning after pill. Apparently, everyone is disgusted about the rise of teen sex and how casual the girls feel about the threat of pregnancy, in which they simply solve by popping the pill. So, they think they can put a stop to this by making sure the girls would be deprived of this and be forced to not have sex and rob a fertilised zygote from settling in their wombs. This seems to be only focused for the aged mainly. Never minding that the pill is only 83% effective according to the NHS here in england, does NOT cure STDs or aids, costs 20 pounds to buy ONE pill and you'll have to take another if you throw it back up within 4 hours of taking it. I don't know how much it costs in spain or if they use a different brand (from newcastle down to huntingdon I've discovered it's only one brand). But other than that, isn't this ridiculous and absolutely unhelpful? |
| Perhaps it is ridiculous and unhelpful, but people have to start taking responsibility for their actions. It is too easy for girls to have sex and not care about getting pregnant if they know that there is a morning after pill. It's like some agencies that say doing drugs are illegal, but hey just in case you do, turn in your dirty needles for some new ones, at least that way, you won't get any infections. While this is just a generalization, something must be done to educate teens to NOT want to have sex. =P |
| Teen sex? Right or wrong? I, personally, view it as wrong. If a teen(or anyone for that matter) has sex and gets/gets a girl pregnant, they should be forced to no longer live with their parents, not be applicable for welfare, and be forced to take a minimum wage job(if they don't have one already.) Teens need to realize they can't do what they want under the roof of their parents. If they want to have sex, they should lose privilege of a home. They should have to work for everything now. Really wouldn't care if they did it at 13; if a guy is on the way, the should have no help, as well as not being able to get a legal abortion. |

| I agree with you and yes some teenagers do choose to drop all their dreams just because of a mistake. And I am a teen mother myself, and yes I am in one of America's ten best top colleges. Because I didn't let that one thing change my mind I worked up that ladder no matter what happened. But some girls just can't do it besides juggling school,work ,and a guy its not that easy and some family aren't as supportive. College cost money unless you have a scholarship and some teen mothers do make it to college but take it from me after a while it gets hard. You miss that guy so much that it takes every ounce of strenght not to drop out and run home to your baby. Teenagers are becoming more and more irresponisble these days and condoms, birthcontrols,patches ect. Aren't working as well as they did 10-20 years ago and even with the help of these medication they still manage to get pregnant. I've heard people say your just want to live the hard life why don't you give that guy up for adoption. First of all that's not easy. I had put my daughter up 3 months after I found out I was pregnant and when she was born three hours before her adoptive parents came. They had a finale paper for me to sign and I really didn't mean to hurt that family but that was hard for me to do. I didn't want to give someone so percious. Someone I carried for 7 months I learned to bond and love her. For the first time when I heard her cry and I saw her I knew that I wasn't going to give her up cause I don't want to regret it. I did not want to wakeup 10 12 years and wonder if every young girl that pass by me is my daughter. Society is changing in major ways and more and more teens are losing what our great grandmothers use to call pride and dignity and really we can't do a thing about it. |

| Why aren't more teen moms forced to choose adoption? As a teacher in Title 1 highschools, I've seen so many pregnant teens that are already living at poverty level in the projects, and I've asked them "so what are your plans?" None of them have ever mentioned adoption. I've asked politely "Has anyone mentioned adoption to you?" and the most common response I get is "If I have to carry this and give birth to it then I'm keepin it". Not ONCE have I heard any of my pregnant girls say "I love this guy" or "I look forward to being a mother"...nothing like that at all. It seems pretty selfish to me. I've also asked a few times "but wouldnt it be great to know that your guy will have loving parents, have a beautiful home to live in, and not want for anything?" I was shocked when one pregnant teen replied that if she didn't have those things then her guy didn't deserve it either. When I asked about abortion, one girl said it was too expensive bc it was like $300, which obviously I nicely stated that a baby is much more expensive than that. Another response to that was that it was against the Bible (isn't being an unwed mother and having sex out of marriage against the bible?). I'm not saying I promote abortion, I'm just so confused by these guys' choices. To add to it all, I've had teen mothers smoke meth, drink, and take oxycotin while pregnant, giving birth to badly damaged babies and they STILL get to keep them. I've never had one teenage mother in over ten years of service to only have one guy. One teen mom had her first guy at 11...and had six babies all by different fathers by the time she was 20. All of her guyren went to my family's daycare center and were paid for by the state, their clothes came from a local church, and no guy support was ever involved. Eventually these babies suffer abuse and neglect and some are put into foster homes, or in the care of their grandparents who didn't do a good job raising the parent so they obviously won't do a good job with the grandguy. It's a shame that so many guyren in our country are unloved and unwanted and people have to adopt guyren from other countries. These abused and neglected guyren make up over 35,000 homeless guyren in this country...and a good portion of them came from teen parents. Bottom line: Teen parents cost this country $, and worse, subject innocent babies to abuse and neglect. Shouldn't they be forced to give up the guy to the state? |

I would like to say first and foremost, that I am 17 and 31 weeks pregnant. I'm a senior in high school, also. I am extremely intelligent in school and already have 6 college credits. I could have graduated last year, and decided not to. I'm graduating early this year, in March. I'm leaving October 15th and coming back to school January 3rd. My mom will watch my daughter 4 hours a day while I attend school, and come home. In April, I will be 18 years of age. I'm getting married 10 days after my 18th birthday to the father of my baby and the only man I've ever been with. At that point, we will move out and lease a cute, little house with room for all of us from my best friend's aunt. My husband will work while I go to school. While I'm in class for 5 hours, my mom will watch my daughter. I will not be on ANY kind of welfare WHAT so ever. In 2 years, I will have a degree in dental hygiene. I will then be able to have a job (which is in high demand) at a local's dentist's office. I will get paid $30 an hour and I will be able to choose what days and hours I want to work, which will be wonderful since I have Olivia. From there, we will actually find and buy a home and we will be just fine. We'll be on our own and completely able to support ourselves. My husband will be making $18 an hour and I will be making $30. It will be plenty enough to support us, and we won't have to use ANY type of government assistance. Yes, I had my daughter young. Yes, I was irresponsible and had sex. But, I DID step up to the plate. I DID decide for myself that I will give up ALL of my teenage life to be a mom, and I enjoy it. I can't wait to be a mom. And my fiancee and I are about to be 2 of the best damn parents this world has ever seen. I don't much are for narrow-minded people like you. Just because someone is a young mother, doesn't mean that they can't apply themselves and do the right thing for their babies. I think you are being not only judgmental, but stereotypical. I don't recommend getting pregnant at a young age, but it happens. Now, 11-13 is TOO young in my opinion. I believe that they should give their guy up for adoption, but maybe that's not always the case. I think that it should remain a mother's choice to keep or not keep her guy. And it always will, no matter what you think. Not all babies born to teen mothers cost the state money. 50% of them really do pay for their own guyren. Have you ever considered that there are 30 year old women who are poor and drug addicts who can't care for a guy? Who will depend on the state? It's not just a "teen" thing, it's an adult thing, too. There are adult parents all over this world who can't care for a guy any better than a teenager, so I don't even want to hear all of that nonsense. Babies that are born to women TWICE my age won't have HALF the things my daughter will have. Before you go ranting, consider all of the things you're saying. If teenagers are required to give up their babies, then so are women who are 30, because half of them can't even take care of a guy either! It has nothing to do with age. I mean, it does, but in the same sense; if a teenager is 16 or 17, they have the FULL capability to be a wonderful parent if they apply themselves, and for that; they just need a little push and a little confidence, which they can find from people like me and from their parents. Parenting has nothing to with age in those cases, because a 16 or 17 year old who has a baby can be 100 times more loving to a baby than a drug addict who is 30 years old and there are A LOT of those. I am a PROUD teen mother. Not of the fact that I am pregnant, but of the fact that I have stood up to the plate. I have found it within myself to support my daughter and love her very much and I don't need narrow-minded people like you judging me for that when I'm going to make a fine life for not only myself, but for my daughter, too.
