| I don't think there is a simple answer. I think it's probably different for everybody. Personally, I am turned on by straight jock types, because that's the type of guy I was fascinated with when I was in my mid-teens and I guess it carried over into my adult life. Sometimes I think I yearned to be accepted by that group so much when I was a guy that it manifested itself in a sexual desire for that group when I matured sexually. I know that sounds like psycho-babble, but I do believe that the reason we are attracted to certain types of people are mainly psychological. For example, when you were younger, did you (or do you) yearn to be accepted by the popular macho frat boy group while at the same time despising them because they're so crude, so ignorant, so mean? I did. And if you're having sex (like I did) with a member of that group, you feel a sort of control over that person and that's another psychological thrill: "This guy could beat me to a pulp, but he's letting me do these things to him, touch him in places no other guy has ever touched," and it is an empowering feeling. |
| Why do a lot of gay teens say that frat boys are homophobes? It's different for me. Most jocks around me are actually gay-friendly. In fact, they are more tolerant than nerdy-*** guys. Jocks feel very comfortable around me. Yesterday I was at a community college practicing wrestling and I told someone that I'm gay. He just said, "you look pretty straight and have a deep voice." He didn't run away or anything. Why do I see tolerance from these guys, but other American teens would say they are complete homophobes? I'm from SoCal. |
| Its a stereotype of jocks or 'frat boys', which I think might have a little basis to it. You also have to consider where you are from SoCal... Go to any Midwestern or Southern state and I'm sure that it wont be as gay friendly. Like others said you are a jock too so they don't see you as stereotypical gay. |

| I've partied at frats before and also have had greek friends. I will tell you about a couple and my history with them: Sigma Pi: Really nice frat, open to gay people, at parties they invite gay guys because some brothers are gay Delta Lambda Chi: the gay frat, but to be more accurate, the "progressive" frat Local non-greek frat: Hooked up with a guy who was a closet bi there, so I am assuming they were not open about it Kappa Delta Rho: a brother once held me up at the entrance asking if I was gay because if I was, I wouldn't be allowed in to the party Most are pretty cool about it. If it bothers you that much, be open and ask while rushing if it matters. A lot of the more education-based frats won't mind. It's more of the social frats that I have had heard bad things about, but that's not to say there aren't good social frats (like Sigma Pi). I remember one time I was really drunk during rushing season at a frat (I forget which one), and the Vice president was giving guys tours during the party, and he said while showing me around that they were really accepting and that they had an openly gay brother and no one minded and he didn't know I was gay, he was just saying it as a side-note. I'd be open during the rush. If the brother obviously shows signs of it being a problem, just find a better one. Edit: Sigma Pi is a fun frat. I have a few friends in it and I always feel welcome. I don't think you'd have a problem because the one here is open about it. |

I have been on the fence about rushing for almost a year now and the main reason I haven't given it a shot is that I am afraid that I won't be able to be myself in a fraternity because of my sexual orientation. I don't want to join a "gay frat". I just want to be treated like everybody else. |
| think it's going to be a campus-by-campus thing, not a national frat that is gay at every school. what you definitely don't want to be is the "token" gay at some house where they are trying to look open with a token Black, token Jew and token gay. there IS a house that is mostly gay at my school and I'm thinking about it.......but have already joined some gay clubs which helps to connect. |
